After the angle Jibril telling prophet Muhammad SAW that he is the messenger of Allah SWT, it was prophet SAW family who were firstly embraced Islam. They were Khadijah (the wife of Rasulillah SAW), Ali bin Abi Thalib, and Zaid bin Harist (Muhammad SAW adopted son).

Soon, Muhammad SAW called people for the new religion, Islam, but Abu Bakr didn’t notice this call since he was out of town for business. After returning from business, Abu Bakr went to Muhammad SAW and asked Him, SAW, to tell him His experience in the cave of Hira with the angel Jibril and the call to worship Allah SWT alone. Abu Bakr knew that Muhammad SAW told him the truth, and soon declared him self to Islam, to worship Allah SWT alone and believe that Muhammad SAW is the last messenger of Allah SWT. This, made him, Abu Bakr, as the first person out of prophet SAW family to embrace Islam.

Later, Abu Bakr convinced people to worship Allah SWT and believe to Muhammad SAW, Allah’s messenger. Some people who went to Islam by Abu Bakr influenced were: Uthman bin Affan, Zubair bin Awam, Talhah bin Ubaidullah, Abdur Rahman bin 'Auf, Sa'ad bin Abi Waqas, Umar bin Masoan, Abu Ubaidah b. Al-Jarrah, Abdullah b. Abdul Asad, Abu Salma, Khalid b Saeed, Abu Hudhaifah. All of them were men of high status and gave significant contribution to the spread of Islam.

Abu Bakr was given a title by Muhammad SAW as “Siddiq”, means "truthful, faithful and veracious". He accepted Islam without hesitation and spoke only the truth. He was also the person who believe the journey of prophet Muhammad SAW in the Isra’ Mi’raj.

He was also the companion of prophet, SAW, when He, SAW, migrated to Madinah. Abu Bakr is also known as a very kindhearted and generous person, who freed slaves and helped the poor.

There was a time when prophet Muhammad SAW asked His companions, who out of them had attended a funeral; who had paid alms; who had visited a sick person; who had visited a graveyard; and who had kept a fast. Abu Bakr alone answered to all these requirements. Abu Bakr was a man of virtues.

May his character give us courage to be a better Moslem, insyaAllah.
